The Grant Batch 43 Cookie

The Grant Batch 43 Cookie

For sometime now many if not all players have encountered the dreaded Grant Batch 43 Cookie. When the cookie gets too large, you can't access Mafia Wars. Removing the cookie makes it possible to get back into Mafia Wars but many players wouldn't know how to do that and Zynga hasn't done anything to spread the word. Once the cookie gets too big, you will get the message shown below when you attempt to access Mafia Wars.
Instructions on how to remove the Grant Batch cookie here bad request errors. In theory you could just block it but that doesn't really work and it always seems to come back no matter what you do. It can get to be very long and the frequency of which it grows depends on how much you fight. The image below had to be cropped or it would have taken up a lot of blog space. It's that big.

During Episode 11 of Mafia Wars Live, Ben and Jeff attempted to answer the following question about the Grant Batch 43 cookie.

What is the point of the Grant_Batch_43 cookie?

I assume you're all aware this nasty little thing keeps appearing in my cookie folder, completely shutting down the game until I go through my folder and delete it, and it's been mentioned several times before on here.

It has no practical purpose as the game runs al right without it, so what's the deal with this?

We didn't get an answer but were told that when the Q&A transcripts were posted it would be addressed. Here is the clip of reply to this question pulled from Mafia Wars Live.

Those transcripts were never posted so I went to Team Spockholm to get the answer. The fist thing that needs to be cleared up about the Grant Batch cookie is a popular misconception that Zynga created it to catch script users in action. Pete stated that the Grant Batch cookie is used in the fight module and both scripters and non scripters get it.  The problem is there are some tags in the code that are not closing properly and Zynga is working on fixing that.  Below is Pistol Pete's response to an anonymous poster who drank the Kool-Aid, fell into the Zynga witch hunt system and s compelled to share it with others. The only part he got right is that Zynga is the originator of the cookie. Martin's reply to that was "It's kind of obvious Zynga is the creator, it comes from the game".
The Grant Batch cookie is a flaw in the new fight module and there is something that makes it explode in size which prevents the browser from accessing Mafia Wars. Once Zynga can locate and fix all the triggers, the Grant Batch cookie will no longer be a problem. If you use Assassin-a-Nator there is now a hidden benefit. A bit of code was written into the script and it automatically deletes the Grant Batch cookie for you. If you noticed you haven't gotten the Grant Batch cookie error in a while, this is probably why. Manual fighters are on their own and must constantly delete the cookie until Zynga fixes the problem.

Thanks to Pete and Martin for educating us on the Grant Batch cookie and to Mike Nestor for uploading the Mafia Wars Live clip on the Informant Podcast YouTube Channel. Also thanks to MWLootLady  for sharing this info.
