I got a thought provoking message from Kanu, the creator of the Mafia Wars Gods, today. He is concerned about the Mafia Wars application statistics. The evidence of many players quitting is shown below. Over 79,000 haven't played in the last 7 days and there are over 1.2 million less monthly players than there were 30 days ago. If the trend continues as it has been, it doesn't look like that much time is left. I've been shocked to see many members of my own family announce that they are quitting and many haven't returned. My friend Walt Dittrich who was a very active player and could always be found helping out Team Spockholm by answering player questions announced he was quitting and it was really sad. I don't think he will be back. His profile picture and number of friends makes it obvious he is serious.

Kanu believes that players would keep playing if the time demands were not so great. He states that "the developers need to understand a basic that spending a whole day at the game is their job and not what the players are looking for".  When players can't keep up, they feel behind and less than average.  Eventually they just quit playing. Attracting new players doesn't seem to be working for Zynga so they really should listen to their existing player base and try to keep them engaged in the game. If they don't understand this principal then maybe this one will sink in....Players who quit do not spend money on Mafia Wars! The players who are left are not sticking around just to say "I told you so" once the game officially dies. We don't want players to quit and we are here in good faith that Zynga will stop doing the things they do that drive players away.

New Daily Take

The New Daily Take & Stream Scanner

Yesterday the Daily Take was revamped. Many are calling it a nerf but you can actually get more skill points per week than with the old system. The reason is because Zynga is allowing us to share the 5 items we don't choose. We can collect on 5 Daily Takes a day and if you are strategic about it then it can be more advantageous to your character than the old system. There are two different types of Daily Take posts. The Daily Take and the Golden Take. The Golden Take offers better items, including skill points so you want to save your 5 for these.

If you don't want to be a search and click monkey, use the Stream Scanner by Team Spockholm to make the task of finding 5 Golden Takes a day easier. Only do 30 minute scans at a time because most of these requests are all taken by the time you get to them. Longer scans will just make it more difficult to find live ones.

Once your scan is complete, click on the "DailyTakeV3" Tab and click on only the posts that say "Get Golden Daily Take reward". You will want to manually click for this part. If you choose automated clicking, all Daily Take links will be clicked and you won't be able to tell them apart when you go to the link.

Once you click on all the Gold Take posts, click on the "Log" Tab. To get to the popup window of an active Golden Take, just click on [LINK].

If an active post is detected but the rewards were claimed before you got to it, you will get the "You are too late" message. If the rewards were already claimed before you clicked on the Stream Scanner link, it will say so and you will know not to go to that link.

If you are lucky, you will get the Golden Take and there will be a reward with skill points available.

If you click the "Collect" button before somebody else, you will get the point.

Sometimes all the skill points are taken. If this is the case, just close it out and it won't count as one of your 5 for the day. You may need to do a few scans in order to find 5 Daily Takes with skill points still available.

The skill point options appear to be +1 attack, +1 defense, +1 stamina, +2 energy and +3 health. A 10% energy refill is shown below.

My 5 rewards for the day were +1 attack, +1 defense, +3 health, +3 health and +1  attack. If I do this everyday for 7 days, I will be much better off than I was with the rewards from the old Daily Take.

When the fun is over, you will be notified that "You have already collected from 5/5 friend takes today".
