The Iceboards have reset and now have loots that will be rewarded to the top icers Globally and Locally.
The Official Mafia Wars Blog posted the following update;

When we started the Mafia Wars Iceboard last week, many players suggested that we reward top ranking players.
We thought it was a great idea! From this week onwards, the top three ranks globally and the first rank in your Mafia will receive the following prizes.

These rewards sound good. That is until you think about your odds of getting one; especially the Global Iceboard reward.
If you trust the AppData.com numbers as being accurate the total number of Daily Active Users for Mafia Wars has flatlined at 320,000.
One would think that their odds of finishing in the top 3 would be a 3 in 320,000 chance. That equates to a 0.000009375% of finishing in the top 3 on the Global Iceboard.
There are also many other factors to consider. You need to consider whether you purchase stamina refills, you need to consider how much time you play the game in comparison to other players, and you need to consider how strong your character is as well as how often you get ices.
Also consider those 3 players shown at the top of the Global Rankings. Consider that IF those players are on your Mafia Rankings board then you have no chance at that reward either.
Your only recourse if you want a reward at all would be to remove the strong players from your Mafia. And that’s only going to piss people off.
The truth in this matter regarding the Iceboard is that YOU (The Average Player) DON’T HAVE A CHANCE IN HELL of finishing in the top 3 on the Global Iceboard. Especially when the leaders on the Iceboard Iced more players inside of a week than you may have in 2 years of playing Mafia Wars.
I’m sorry, but it is my belief that ZYNGA didn’t think this feature through completely. It is a feature that over-whelming favors about 1% of the player base (or 3,200 players, estimated). IT IS A DISGRACE TO THE GAME!!
On our original post, Ice Em All - Iceboard - Ice Em All, we stated;
This kind of feature would have been an OK, at best, idea if the game were new. These kinds of features do not really mean anymore than bragging rights and will get boring rather quickly. Especially when the same players are at the top each time it resets. You know, those players that topped the Death By Ice event. Other than those players, WHO CARES? This is just another feature for them.
For the rest of us, If rewards will be involved it may make this interesting for a minute. However, that would just lead to some players finding ways to cheat.
Ultimately this feature is just going to take up space on Zynga’s servers. Many players won’t care to even check on it unless they need to collect something.
Zynga, you really do need to make new districts (MORE THAN 4 or 5!!!), make robbing mean something, make money mean something (especially since that’s what Mafia’s are about), and update features once you implement them (Trader Goh’s and the Fight Club for example). Make this game playable and enjoyable for everyone again and not just the fighters!
We continue to stand by every word.
