Many people are curious as to how much money Zynga and/or Facebook generates from the apps and games. If you check the facebook appcenter you will find a list of ‘Top Grossing’ Apps with the most in-app purchases.
The top 20 ‘Top Grossing’ Apps are as follows;

Zynga has 9 games that made the top 20. Mafia Wars is the 9th of those Zynga games. With this information we can reasonably assume that Zynga Poker, Farmville, CastleVille, CityVille, Pioneer Trail, Hidden Chronicles, Cafe World, and Zynga Slingo ALL generate more revenue for Zynga than Mafia Wars does.
Mafia Wars players could argue that there is a greater percentage of Mafia Wars players who spend money on this game as opposed to the percentage of paying players in the other games. With the ever declining player base of Mafia Wars that percentage number of paying players should rise. Even if that percentage of paying players in Mafia Wars does rise it DOES NOT mean that Mafia Wars will make more revenue from the game.
In order for Mafia Wars to make more money for Zynga there needs to be one of a few things happen. Thos things include;
- Increase The Player Base. Even us free playing players might buy an occasional gift card. If nothing else it could generate more advertising revenue.
- Get those who do pay for things in Mafia Wars to spend even more money on the game. This is risky because Zynga might push some of those players away from the game also.
- Generate more advertising revenue. Again, if the player base continues to decline advertisers may not want to advertise in the game.
This game will survive for a while. That is as long as it is generating enough revenue. But IT IS NO LONGER a priority for Zynga to continue to try and make this game fun and enjoyable for everyone. It is obvious that Zynga IS nickel and diming the hell out of those who spend money on this game.
IF Zynga wanted to keep this game strong and vibrant with players they would stop listening to ALL the bad ideas for and about this game. They would do more to keep ALL players playing the game and NOT JUST THE VIP PLAYERS! Zynga should realize that even us FREE PLAYERS ARE VERY IMPORTANT to them!
The bottom line is for Mafia Wars is that this games bottom-line will continue to decline as the player base continues to decline!
